The disciples worried.
We only have five small loaves and two fishes!
What ever will we do??
Five loaves and two fishes could never feed the multitudes in the natural realm!
But we have a God who is in the multiplication business!
He works on an entirely different mathematical equation than we are accustomed to.
He takes the little we offer and turns it into more than we could fathom!
How often do we feel as if we have little to offer?
The Lord is interested in everything we have to give, even if it seems miniscule to our eyes!
Let’s not be afraid to offer up our gifts, talents, abilities, accomplishments and material things that we may find insignificant.
They are not!
When we give up even the littlest of things to the Lord-
He brings forth an abundance!

Bible 6“But just as you excel in everything–in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us–see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7.

A layman once made a covenant with his pastor to tithe ten percent of their income every year.

They were both young and neither of them had much money.

But things changed.

The layman tithed one thousand dollars the year he earned ten thousand,
– ten thousand dollars the year he earned one-hundred thousand,
– and one- hundred thousand dollars the year he earned one million.

But the year he earned six million dollars-
– he just could not bring himself to write out that check for six-hundred thousand dollars to the Church.

He telephoned the minister, long since having moved to another church, and asked to see him.

Walking into the pastor’s office the man begged to be let out of the covenant, saying-
“This tithing business has to stop. It was fine when my tithe was one thousand dollars, but I just cannot afford six-hundred thousand dollars. You’ve got to do something, Reverend!”

The pastor knelt on the floor and prayed silently for a long time.

Eventually the man said, “What are you doing? Are you praying that God will let me out of the covenant to tithe?”

“No,” said the minister. “I am praying for God to reduce your income back to the level where one thousand dollars will be your tithe!”
No one excels more in giving than the Lord.

Today in prayer, praise Jesus for all that He has blessed you with and seek to excel in giving to the Lord.
What I kept, I lost;
What I spent, I had;
What I gave, I have!

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.” Psalm 37:25-26.

One of the things I’m often asked is whether or not you have to go to church to be a Christian.
I like what Billy Graham says:
“Being in church no more makes you a Christian than being in a garage makes you a car.”
You do not have to go to church to be a Christian.
But attending church serves-
– a minimum three-fold purpose to help us grow in our faith.
Worship-
– with other believers.
You can worship God out on the lake, or on the golf course.
But we miss out on the encouragement of others and we miss out on them being encouraged by us.
Fellowship-
– in the Body of Christ.
And lone ranger Christians don’t do well in the journey of faith.
When we’re not in church, we miss out on the rich fellowship of other meaningful relationships with believers.
Stewardship-
-Church is a place where we can use our gifts in service and ministry.
But not only that, not attending your church is just plain selfish, because it denies sharing your spiritual gifts with fellow believers.
While you don’t have to come to church to be a Christian-
– failure to attend retards your spiritual growth.
While you do not have to be in church to be a Christian-
– it is certainly the place where you are needed and where the committed Christian wants to be.
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near” (Hebrews 10:23-25).

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).
Let’s suppose Jesus walked up to you and said:
“I want to see your books. Let me see your investments, your paychecks, and your checkbook. I want to see how you’re spending your money.”
If Jesus looked at all of that would He then say-
“Salvation has truly come to this house? I can tell where your heart is by how you manage your money?”
Or would He look you in the eye and say-
“I know your profess to be a Christian, but there’s nothing in the books indicating that you are. You know, you may profess to be a follower of mine, but in reality, you’re in bondage to your money, to your possessions.”
I can also imagine Jesus adding, “But I have good news. If you will trust Me for salvation, I will give you the Holy Spirit to empower you with an “inner want-to” to become a good manager of what I entrust to you. If you will trust Me fully, I will put you on the road to financial freedom, where you will no longer be living in financial slavery so evident in your books! Won’t you trust Me?”
That’s the question-
Jesus is asking you today.
Do you trust Him-
– especially when it comes to all the money and possessions He’s entrusted to you?
Or are you afraid to let it go?
