“Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like chaff, Before the Lord’s fierce anger comes upon you, Before the day of the Lord’s anger comes upon you! Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord’s anger.” Zephaniah 2:2-3.
In the 1883, Captain Sampson of the British navy witnessed one of the greatest volcanic eruptions in history which took place in Indonesia.
The eruption was so powerful that its shock waves travelled around the world seven times.
The volcano shot miles of debris into the atmosphere which fell to earth as far away as Madagascar – over 2000 miles distance.
Captain Sampson wrote in the ship’s log:
“I am writing this blind in pitch darkness. We are under continual rain of pumice-stone and dust. So violent are the explosions that the ear-drums of over half my crew have been shattered…I am convinced that the Day of Judgment has come.”
These men witnessed something extraordinary, and it caused them to ponder the inevitable question-
Is this the end?
What was the crew thinking and feeling as they were deafened by the massive explosions, and blinded by the clouds of smoke and ash?
To them it must have been as if the sun had become like sackcloth!
Did this experience change their lives?
Were they now powerfully aware of how fragile life is?
Did they suddenly begin to examine what their lives had consisted of up to that moment?
Imagine yourself in that boat as these events are taking place.
Now picture yourself at the present moment-
Are you thinking about what your life has been about, or what it is now?
Are you thinking about what it could be??
Wake up!
Recognize that eruptions are already taking place, and these are the Lord’s warnings to this sleeping world; warnings that His return is NEAR!
We are privileged to be witnesses and participants in the most extraordinary times as the end of the age draws near.
But God is looking for people who are awake, who are wise, who understand the signs of the times, and who know Him…so they can do exploits and can shine like stars in a darkening world.
Will you be one of them?

D L Moody used to say, “I never preach a sermon without thinking that possibly the Lord may come before I preach another.”
We should live in anticipation of His return.
Perhaps He will return today.  We will meet Him face to face.  O what a glorious day it will be!
Do you think He will return today?  “Oh, well, maybe not today,” we say, “after all, He has not returned for the last two thousand years.
“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matt 24:44).
There was a father who had to leave his home to go on a long journey. Just before he left, his little three-year old son asked him, “Daddy, when will you be coming back again?”
The father knew that he would not be back till the end of September. However, he realized that it was no use talking about dates and times and seasons to his boy, for he would not know the difference between them.
So the father said to the boy, “Now, listen; when you see the leaves on the trees turning red and brown and beginning to fall to the ground, then you can be sure that Daddy is coming back very soon.”
After his father left home, the little boy would go for walks outside his house. Slowly the weeks went by until it came early September and then mid-September. Although the boy did not notice it, the leaves on the trees were changing colour.
Then one night there was a big wind storm.  Millions of leaves fell from trees. The next morning when the little boy went out, he immediately saw them. Happily, he went amongst the leaves and began to kick them sky-high. Then he began to shout, “Hurray! Hurray! Daddy’s coming back soon.”
Likewise all over the world there is an expectation.  Signs are evident that Jesus’ return is imminent.
“Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28).
Watch, for He may come back today.

“Looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ” (Tit 2:13).
As each year draws to a close, let us remember that the return of our Lord draws nearer.
The prophecies regarding His first coming were all fulfilled.  His birth at Bethlehem, born of a virgin, slaughter of the babies, escape to Egypt, His ministry, betrayal, crucifixion, death, and resurrection were prophesied hundreds of years before His birth.
Today we see prophecies regarding the re-gathering of Israel, the rise of Gentile nations, globalization, the increase in the number of earthquakes, the development of new diseases, the use of microchips for personal identification, being fulfilled before our very eyes.
On the religious scene, false prophets are on the rise.  The Gospel continues to advance.
“So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near – at the doors!” (Matt 24:33).
However, we are looking for the coming of the Lord, whether there are signs or not.  But these signs do indicate for us that we are indeed living in the last days.  Jesus is truly coming back!
Be ready for His coming (24:44).
How?  Be faithful and wise in serving the Lord (24:46).
When we meet Him, will we hear Him say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant”?
What a glorious day it will be!  When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!

Sunbeam from clouds
“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel” (Luke 2:25-32).
Just as Simeon was lingering and waiting for the first appearance of the Messiah more than two thousand years ago-
– we too linger and wait for the second coming of Jesus today.
The Lord whom we exalt at Christmas-
– is not just a baby in a manger or a character in a child’s storybook.
He is far more!
The first time He came-
He was veiled in the form of a child.
The next time He comes, which will be soon,
He will come as the Risen Messiah and Savior of the world.
And it will be made known to the entire world who He truly is.
The first time He came-
– a star marked His arrival.
The next time He comes-
– the clouds will roll up like a scroll,
– the stars will fall out of the sky,
– and He Himself will light the heavens.
The first time He came-
– wise men and shepherds brought Him gifts.
The second time He comes-
He will bring rewards for His own.
The first time He came-
– there was no room for Him at the inn.
The next time He comes-
– the whole world will not be able to contain His glory.
The first time He came-
– only a few were there to welcome Him into the world.
The next time He comes-
– every eye shall see Him,
– every knee shall bow before Him,
– and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The first time He came as a baby.
But soon He will come as Sovereign King and Lord.
Are you ready for Him to come again?
Pray that God would prepare your heart and mind for His second coming.
Ask the Lord to bring to mind those in your life who need to know Him personally as Lord and Saviour, and make an effort to share Christ with them today.
