“After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded” (John 13:5).

Your boss has assigned you a task!
Come up with a creative solution to a problem that has been costing the company money.

You tackle work at night and on weekends doing the needed research.
Your boss is enthusiastic about your proposal.

Later, in a company-wide meeting, the president gives your boss credit for the solution.
You find it increasingly difficult to continue serving your boss faithfully.

Serving people who have wounded us is a challenge.
Jesus overcame that challenge on the night-

He was arrested, accused, and sentenced to die.
He had gathered with His disciples to celebrate the Passover when He took a towel and a basin of water and began to wash their feet.

In that group of 12 was Judas!
– a thief and generally disagreeable sort, whom Jesus knew was about to betray him (John 13:1-6).

Judas left the meeting early to arrange the betrayal of Jesus-
– but not before Jesus washed his feet,
– along with those of the faithful eleven who remained.

The next time God asks you to serve someone you would rather not-
– remember how Jesus washed the feet of an unlovely man on the road to Calvary.

It is a contradiction to be a true Christian and not humble!

revival 1“Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 18:4.

Hudson Taylor was scheduled to speak at a Large Presbyterian church in Melbourne, Australia.
The moderator of the service introduced him in the most eloquent and glowing terms.
He told the large congregation all that Taylor had accomplished in China-
– and then presented him as “our illustrious guest.”
Taylor stood quietly for a moment, and then opened his message by saying:
“Dear friends, I am the little servant of an illustrious Master.”
If we want to do great things for the Lord-
– it is crucial that we become humble before Him!
When we realize that we are but little servants of an illustrious Master-
– it is then that God will use us in a mighty way.
After all, it is not our agendas, our purposes, our plans that God wants to bless.
It’s God’s agenda…God’s plan…God’s purpose for our lives that He will bless to overflowing!
Let’s humble ourselves-
– get “little” before the Lord today and
– get our minds set on His purpose instead of our own.

“I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think…” (Romans 12:3).
There’s a story of a British general serving in Asia who hosted a dinner party for distinguished guests.
One of those guests was an aristocratic lady visiting from England.
The general’s assistant seated her to his left, while the highest seat of honour was to his right.
She seethed inside and as the dinner wore on, she could not contain herself.
She haughtily complained to the general, “I guess you have difficulty finding qualified help to seat people properly.”
To which the general replied, “Not at all. Those who matter don’t mind and those who mind, don’t matter.”
Her ego was suffering from inflation that called for deflation.
It’s a reminder of the danger of prideful arrogance.
The more our ego gets inflated-
– the more life has a way of humbling us- big time.
God’s Word tells us to not think more highly of ourselves than we ought-
– for ego inflation can lead to ego deflation in the most humiliating ways!

Sadhu Sundar Singh completed a tour around the world.
People asked him, “Doesn’t it do harm, your getting so much honour?”
The Sadhu’s answer was:
“No. The donkey went into Jerusalem, and they put garments on the ground
before him. He was not proud. He knew it was not done to honour him, but
for Jesus, who was sitting on his back. When people honour me, I know it is not
me, but the Lord, who does the job.”
The first test of a truly great man is his humility.
The greatness is not in him but through him-
– that he could not do or be anything else than God made him.
We too, should strive to live knowing that the greatness is-
– through us and give God all the glory He deserves!
“Lord, help us!
We want to empty ourselves of our desires and our agendas, and be available
for all the works you want to do through us!
And Lord, we want to live a life of honouring You for every work!
Thank you for loving us and helping us along the way.
In the Name of Jesus, Amen!”
