Self-Made Man
“The Lord takes delight in those who have respect for Him. They put their hope in His faithful love.” Psalm 147:11.
The designation of a “self-made man” or a “self-made woman” describes a person-
– who was born poor or otherwise disadvantaged,
– but who achieved great economic success thanks to their own hard work and ingenuity rather than to any inherited fortune, family connections or other privilege.
But in reality-
– there is no such thing as a self-made man or woman.
It’s a proud statement!
The fact is we are all indebted to someone.
Most of you were born in a great country.
Did you have any part in that decision?
Did you write the Constitution that guarantees you freedom to live and work where you choose?
Did you have anything to do with our nation’s abundant natural resources?
What about the people that helped you along the way:
– a relative, a teacher, a coach, a friend, or a mentor.
The fact is no one can really call himself or herself self-made.
We are all indebted to someone.
I urge you to take a few moments to say thanks to someone who has encouraged you along the way through a phone call, a note, or a visit.
When you do-
– don’t forget your Maker who has allowed you to be a part of your country,
– the land of the free and the land of opportunity.
God has blessed us through our land, and for that, we can be forever grateful.
