“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”1 John 4:18.

Are you gripped with fear about something?

Love is the answer to overcoming your fear!
Because love is the Christian’s security blanket.

When you were a child-
– did you have a teddy bear or a blanket that gave you a sense of security
– something you wanted to hold close to you and get wrapped up in?

The Holy Spirit of God is-
The believer’s blanket!
– the believer’s warm, loving security blanket!

I read the verse, “Perfect love casts out fear!”
But it never rang true to me because I had never done anything perfectly except sin.

Then, I read the translation in the Living Bible, which says:
“We have no fear of someone who loves us perfectly.”

God’s perfect love can eliminate all dread.

It is not our love for Him-
– but His perfect love for us that will cast out our fears.

The question isn’t:
Am I brave enough?

The question is:
Do I trust His love enough?

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7.

“But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
We have all considered-
– whether we would be willing to suffer for, even die for, Jesus.
For me-
– though, being willing was not the tough question.
My fearful question is:
Would I actually be able to?
I always find hope in the fact that God promised that He would always be with us.
When we come to Christ-
He fills us with His Spirit, and the Spirit of the Lord will be sufficient in the day of the crisis.
He does not give us strength for tomorrow’s crisis today.
He gives us strength for the crisis when the crisis time comes.
It’s understandable that each of us would gulp and say, “I hope I am willing.”
And then wonder deep inside if we really would be.
Well, I want you to know, as cowardly, weak, and selfish as I am-
I know I could not do that on my own strength.
But I’m going to trust that-
– the power of the Holy Spirit will give me strength in that moment of crisis
– strength that I just can’t imagine having today.

“Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666” (Revelation 13:18).
Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia-
– is the fear of the number 666.
There are people who will go to extremes to avoid the presence of 666 in their lives.
For instance-
– when former president Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, moved to a new home in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles in 1989-
– their address was 666 St. Cloud Road.
They had the address legally changed to 668 St. Cloud Road.
While there is no reason to fear any particular number-
– there will one day be good reason for non-Christians to fear the man to whom 666 refers in the Bible the beast who comes up out of the earth to promote the worship of the beast out of the sea, the Antichrist (Revelation 13:1,11).
Gematria was the “science” of assigning numerical values to Hebrew letters.
And in so doing many early Christians thought 666 referred to Caesar Nero who persecuted the church.
Others see the sixes referring to a diabolical trinity one digit short of the divine number seven.
Instead of fearing a number-
– be on guard today against the Satanic spirit of godlessness that will empower the Antichrist in the future.
It is only the fear of God that can deliver us from the fear of man!

After Jesus’ crucifixion, the disciples were terrified.
Afraid that the same authorities who executed Jesus would come after them next-
– they hid behind shut doors, afraid for their very lives.
So what did Jesus do to bring courage to these frightened disciples?
He appeared in the midst of them and said, “Peace be with you.”
Then He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Are you afraid of something right now?
Quite honestly, there are a number of things we maybe ought to be concerned about today.
There is instability in our world.
There are wars and rebellions everywhere.
The economic situation could change overnight.
Maybe you are afraid of losing your health.
Or maybe you are afraid of losing your job.
Are you hiding behind closed doors?
– like the disciples, terrified of what is out there?
Jesus wants to come into your life and set you free from that fear.
The same Holy Spirit that energized the first-century believers is here today, ready to fill your life.
Stop and consider the simple fact that these very panic-stricken, fearful disciples went out after this and boldly and courageously shared the gospel.
Most of them, in fact, laid down their very lives and became martyrs for the faith.
Think about it.
It is because Christ was indeed risen, because He was alive, that these men went and, for all practical purposes, turned the world upside down.
It is the explanation for the change in their lives.
It is the explanation for the Christian to this present day.
We serve a risen, living Lord who is still transforming lives.
